Heather Saffer is the founder of Dollop Gourmet; a better-for-you frosting brand sold in thousands of major retail stores. Heather is a winner of Food Network's Cupcakes Wars and author of two bestselling cookbooks. Heather has been featured on Shark Tank, QVC, Forbes, Huffington Post, Oprah.com, and People Magazine.
It takes about three months for someone to show you their true colors, and you get to learn quickly if they are someone that you want to work with, or if they are someone you have to say NO to, and run away from.
Before I started FITzee Foods, there was this guy named - well, let’s call him Charlie. I was one of his clients, and I would pay quarterly for a meal subscription service.
Well, Charlie would be spending money right and left, but not paying his vendors. Eventually, he came to me for help, but I had seen his true colors and knew that working with him would be a hard NO!
I knew that I could do it better, so I started FITzee Foods.
But Charlie didn’t just go away: in fact, he started stealing my potential clients, and ordering food under his significant other’s business, and I would be the one delivering the food.
The few clients this happened to then called me, saying that he had a charge for food, but had not received a delivery.
Talk about unethical, and absolutely absurd!
Many entrepreneurs find themselves working with just anybody who is willing to help them, but what they really need to do is see that person’s true colors first. That way, these new entrepreneurs can either say NO and run away, or create a great partnership!
